For over 14 years, Joan Cosby has been assisting individuals, families and business owners achieve a successful balance between their financial goals and philanthropic objectives. With a strong background in Canadian tax law, Joan helps to develop strategic estate plans that include both efficient wealth transfer and effective charitable giving strategies. To date she has saved over $2.5 million in tax liabilities as a result of gifts to various charities.  Joan is most proud of her work with families who are focused on fostering stronger relationships with those charities that are deeply meaningful to them.

With a twenty-plus year history in the nonprofit sector, including as an International Relief Project Manager, Joan was often called upon by the media to report on her organization’s responses to various global disasters. This unique frontline experience gives her insight into the impact of charitable giving and the challenges charities experience. She has been regularly featured as a guest lecturer at Sheridan College in Oakville speaking to graduate students on charitable giving and has shared her knowledge surrounding charitable giving, estate and tax planning with individuals and local charities at numerous workshops.

Joan is an active member of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners and cherishes spending time with her grandchildren; Lucy, 4 and Joel, 2. She supports local community theatre especially the developing artists involved in the Hamilton Fringe Festival and visual artists through her involvement in the Art in Action program in Burlington.  As a member of the Royal Botanical Gardens, Joan also enjoys hiking in many of the beautiful green spaces it has to offer.
